Ice Age Trail Alliance volunteer workday clearing invasive shrub - Halfway Prairie Wildlife Area - Oak Savannah

Event Dates

  • Sunday, 09/16/2018 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Event Description

Hi All:

Please join the Ice Age Traile Alliance volunteers on Sunday Sept 16th to continue restoration of the oak savannah slope east of Matz Road at Halfway Prairie.  We will be cutting honeysuckle, buckthorn and other shrubs with loppers, chainsaws, herbiciding the stumps, and burning brushpiles.  Bring  a chain saw and PPE if you have one.  If using a chainsaw on County lands you need to have signed Chainsaw Waiver Form on file with the county.  Contact Rhea:  stangel-maier@countyofdane.com or call 608-224-3601.  They will have a supply of loppers and handsaws for use.

The weather forecast is for pleasant, dry weather -- believe it or not!  Please bring work gloves, a long-sleeve shirt for protection against thorns and raspberries, and water and food for yourself.

I will bring some food and drink to share – including brats to cook on the fire!

Location

MEET: 9:00 AM on Sunday at 6264 Matz Road in the Town of Berry.  Please park along the road off the pavement.  For late comers I will have a flagged route leading north up the savannah slope to the work area.

Please let me know if you can help on Sunday.
