The Madison Area Municipal Storm Water Partnership (MAMSWaP), a consortium of 19 central Dane County municipal entities working together to curb the negative impacts of storm water, will unveil its video about storm water issues and what residents can do to help at the Orpheum Stage Door Theater (216 State Street, Madison) on Wednesday, June 13 at 5:30 p.m. The release party is part of the 13th Annual Take a Stake in the Lakes Week (formerly Yahara Lakes Week), June 9-17. The public is invited to attend. “The lakes and streams of Dane County are very important to the people who live and work here, yet over a third of respondents to our survey had no idea that storm water goes straight from the curb to the storm drain to our lakes and streams,” said Marcia Hartwig, storm water education coordinator for MAMSWaP. “That’s why MAMSWaP developed this video to help folks understand how storm water affects Dane County’s precious resources and what we all can do to help improve and protect them.” The video features beautiful shots of lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands in Madison and Dane County, as well as interviews with area storm water experts, scientists, conservationists, residents and kids. Viewers come away with a good understanding of how storm water runoff affects the quality of the lakes and streams, and what each person can do to help. Copies of the DVD will be available for municipalities, libraries, schools, groups, clubs, watershed associations and others at no charge. MAMSWaP municipalities with local cable access will be making the video available to their respective stations for broadcast. While this event is free and open to the public, an RSVP is requested by calling 608-224-3746, or e-mail hartwig@co.dane.wi.us.
