14th Annual Take a Stake in the Lakes Days Continue Through June 22

(Madison, June 16, 2008) Take a Stake in the Lakes Days, presented by the Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission, is a great way to kick off the summer by helping to protect and preserve Dane County’s lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands so that they may be enjoyed for years to come. Sue Jones, Dane County Watershed Management Coordinator, said “This year, we’ve expanded our celebration from nine days to 14 days full of almost 40 fun, educational and entertaining community activities that everyone can enjoy. If you swim, fish, kayak, canoe, or just enjoy a picnic by the water, please join us,” Jones concluded. Visit www.takeastakeinthelakes.com for a complete listing of the almost 40 events during the week. Remaining highlights include: Thursday, June 19 Paddle to Work Day, countywide. One flotilla paddles on Lake Monona from 6:30 a.m.-7:30 a.m., departing from Olbrich Park (3300 Atwood Avenue in Madison), ending at Law Park. June 19 – Dane County Waters Champions Award Ceremony 5:30 p.m. at the Madison Club, Terrace Room. The Dane County Waters Champions will be announced and will be recognized at the County Board meeting immediately after the awards ceremony. June 19 – Dane County State of the Waters Report Sue Jones will give the State of the Waters address to the County Board after presenting the 2008 Waters Champion awards. Saturday, June 21 9:00 a.m. – noon. 20th Annual Take a Stake in the Lakes Clean-Up, Information Center at Law Park. Volunteer shoreline clean-up of lakes Monona and Waubesa.
