The 2005 Yahara Lakes Week, presented by the Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission, begins Saturday, June 11 and ends Sunday, June 19. Now in its 11th year, Yahara Lakes Week is a series of community events, activities, and hands-on workshops that focus on the importance of the lakes in our quality of life and the ways in which our lives affect the quality of the lakes. “The county’s lakes, streams and rivers are priceless. Yahara Lakes Week is an opportunity for residents to learn and understand more about these precious systems,” said Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk. Highlights of the Week include: Take a Stake in the Lakes, Saturday, June 11 and June 18, 9:00 a.m. to noon Volunteer shoreline cleanup of Lakes Mendota, Monona, Wingra, Waubesa and Kegonsa Paddle to Work Day, Thursday, June 16, on waters across Dane County. One group of paddlers leaves at 6:45 a.m. from Olbrich Park and paddles to Law Park on Lake Monona. Dane County Water Champions Reception and Awards Presentation Friday, June 17, 5:00-6:00 p.m. Concourse Hotel Better Lawns and Gutters Tour, Sunday, June 19, noon to 4:00 p.m. Tour features eastside homes with examples of rain gardens, chemical-free lawns, and native plantings.
