Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission to hold public hearing on Squaw Bay Slow-No-Wake Proposal

May 13, 2005
Sue Jones (224-3764)

The Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission has scheduled a public hearing on a proposal, now under review by County Board committees, to amend Chapter 72 of the Dane County Code of Ordinances to establish a slow-no-wake zone on Squaw Bay on Lake Monona. The proposed no-wake zone is located east of a line running from the Winnequah boat landing in the City of Monona to Hoboken Road in the City of Madison. This ordinance amendment was referred to the Lakes and Watershed Commission and other County Board committees, and will come before the County Board after all committees have acted on the proposal. The public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday May 23, at the Monona Community Center, 1011 Nichols Road, Monona. The public hearing will be in the main hall on the upper level. The format of the hearing will involve both small group and full room discussion, in a format designed to explore possible responses to the proposed no-wake zone that would work for most of those affected and concerned. Slow-no-wake is defined as the minimum speed at which a motorized watercraft is able to move and maintain adequate steerage control. # # #
