Date: August 11, 2008 Dane County’s Archery Program will expand to include several additional properties for this year hunt, Parks Director Darren Marsh said today. The program will also include opportunities to hunt turkeys for those archers having a valid state permit. “Since 2002, Dane County Parks has issued a limited number of Archery Access Permits to hunt deer within Dane County properties,” Marsh said. These hunts have occurred safely and offered a good recreational experience for the participants. The program now includes around 3700 acres of parklands. There will be approximately 184 Limited Access Archery Permits available for this fall’s hunt. Archers 16 years of age and older are limited to one permit for one property for the fall hunting season. The permit fee is $12 to cover the program administration costs. Limited Access Archery Permits will be issued on a first come/first serve basis until they are gone. The applicant must be present to receive a permit. No mail-in applications will be accepted. Sales will begin at 7:45 a.m. on August 27th. Permits are only available through the Dane County Parks Office, Room 208 at the Lyman F. Anderson Agriculture and Conservation Center, 1 Fen Oak Ct., Madison, 53718. “This has been a very popular program,” stated Marsh. “Based on previous years I expect that there will be patrons waiting in line to secure a permit for their preferred property.” Marsh also noted that the County was working to provide additional hunting opportunities by designating Wildlife Areas, lands that would be open to public hunting, within certain properties. One recent county property that was opened to public hunting is within the Dorn Creek Public Hunting and Fishing Grounds in the Town of Westport.
