Public Hearing on Proposed 2006 Dane County Parks Fee Increases

September 21, 2005
Darren Marsh, Parks Director, 246-3896
Land & Water Resources

The Dane County Parks Commission will hold a public hearing on the Proposed Parks 2006 Fee Increases on September 28, 2005 at 5:30 P.M. room 2 A of the City County Building, 210 M.L. King Jr. Blvd, Madison WI 53703 The Dane County Park Commission has the responsibility to set the fee structure for service provided in the County Parks. “I believe the County Parks Department has been very diligent trying to hold down costs, especially during these tight budget times. Dane County Parks works very hard to maintain excellent services in the face of increased costs,” stated Park Commission Chair Bill Lunney. The proposed 2006 fee increases include shelter rentals, camping, lake access sites, firewood, vending, archery access permit and disc golf. “Dane County Parks charges service fees in the form of user permits to help offset the operation and maintenance costs associated with various park activities,” said Darren Marsh, Parks Director. These fees allow the Parks to provide services for specific types of activities where the user covers a large percentage of the cost. Activities include boating, camping, dog exercise areas, events, mountain biking, skiing, aeromodeling and others. Fee rates are determined by a number of factors including the costs for labor, utilities, supplies, equipment, fuel and program administration. Marsh noted that when there is a larger percentage increases proposed for any given fee or service it’s generally due to the fact that the fee hasn’t been increased for several years.
