Snowmobile Trails

The Dane County Council of Snowmobile Clubs and Dane County Parks have opened all snowmobile all trails within Dane County.  This includes the Glacial Drumlin and the Military Ridge State Trails within the County.

Please check the Dane County Trail Information Line (609) 242-4576 for current and updated conditions.

Paul Statz, Council President, encourages snowmobilers to use caution, since this is the first time the trails have been open this season and there are some changes in the trails.  “Snowmobilers must respect the properties where they ride,” added Statz.  The snowmobile trail system is almost entirely on private lands.  Without the cooperation and generosity of the private landowners, the Dane County and State trail system would not exist.

Darren Marsh, Park Director, asks snowmobilers to stay on marked trails and to make sure the trails are open before riding.  Marsh noted, “the Dane County Sheriff’s Department will be out patrolling the trails.”  The Dane County Sheriff’s Department is also cautioning snowmobilers from venturing out on area lakes and waterways.  Sheriff Sergeant Dave Ritter stated that the lakes are not fully frozen yet and there are areas of open water.

The gun-hunting and archery season for deer continues in Dane County, part of the CWD Deer Management Area, through January 4, 2009.  Trail users are encourage to wear brightly colored clothes while on the trails and to respect the other recreational activities that may be taking place adjacent to the trails.

Trails will remain open unless snow conditions deteriorate.  For more information, please call the Parks Information Line at (608) 242-4576 or see our website at http://www.countyofdane.com/lwrd/parks/.
