Watersheds & Ecosystem Services

A watershed is an area of land that drains to a common waterway, such as a lake, river, or wetland. Activities that occur within a watershed affect that watershed’s natural resources including land, water, and air.

Through watershed management, our department implements programs, initiatives and projects, on the land and in waterways that both protect and improve these resources. Working at a watershed-scale makes it possible to focus efforts and make meaningful impacts.
